Educating students in STEM subjects prepares them for life, regardless of the profession they choose to follow, Women and minorities have traditionally been under-represented in such science and technology-oriented disciplines such as engineering, mathematics, data science, STEM and STEAM. We are actively trying to address this inequity. Even for youths who don’t choose a career in one of the STEM/STEAM fields, the skills they gain from a STEAM education can be translated into almost any career.
The goal of the STEM club will be to promote and get more girls, women and youths engagement and interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. Participants will be engaging in hands-on STEM activities with the help of volunteers and educators from the community. Our program will take place approximately eight times a month, or twice weekly.
The TEE (Train, Empower, Educate) program intends to allow out-of-school youth to gain experience while working in volunteer vocational training placements. The program will negotiate a 3 - 6 month placement and provide youth with a Certificate of Recognition given upon completion.
Our homework club will be a safe, supportive and productive student meetup out of school hours to assist students in completing their homework. Our homework club provide vital support for children who will not otherwise have the help that they need. This is where we come in. Twice a week volunteers and retired teachers will be on hand to help.
Our CFDE ESL programs are designed to improve English language skills of unemployed or marginally employed adults and new immigrants. By improving their English language skills, they will enhance their employment prospects and opportunities and gain language skills required for many professions in Canada. Helping newcomers from non-English speaking countries become equipped to navigate the language barrier they might face in Alberta will help them feel more comfortable in their communities quicker.
Learn through watercolour!
Spend sometime learning about yourself through art. We believe art should be accessible to all that is why we are offering this program.
Classes offered on a sliding scale. Classes will take places every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Our creative crafting club will give students a chance to interact with others who share common interests. Arts and crafts can help instil a sense of achievement and pride in children, boosting their self confidence and helping them develop their problem solving skills. By engaging with the creative crafting club, children will get the opportunity to express themselves in a positive, tangible, and meaningful way.
Research has shown that students are able to learn better when they're well-nourished; eating healthy meals has been linked to higher grades, better memory and alertness, and faster information processing. This program's meal plans were developed using Canada's Food Guide and with the intention of easing the learning process for Albertan children living in poverty.
