Opening Doors for Edmonton Youth and Families

The Canadian Foundation for Development and Empowerment is an Edmonton nonprofit helping children, youth, newcomers and low-income families access educational support, skill-building opportunities and community resources.

Our Mission

At the Canadian Foundation for Development and Empowerment (CFDE) we provide the tools and resources necessary for young people and their families in need to thrive academically.

We endeavor to define and respond to systemic issues that impact the quality of life and well-being of young people and their families who want to succeed.

We open doors, when others have closed them!

Yes, we offer guidance and mentorship to help youth explore career options and set clear goals for their future.

Most of our classes have fees; however, we have low-cost fees for the unemployed and low-income permanent residents. Furthermore, most of our students can receive additional services such as employment support without extra costs.
Permanent residents can also apply for government funding for some of our fee-based programs.

CFDE offers two separate kinds of English support. Our free community-based ESL and newcomer support is for eligible newcomers and low-income adults. Separately, there are fee-based CLB, CELPIP, IELTS and CAEL courses for people who want structured instruction or test preparation.

Visit English Language Support to see both options and use the form that applies to you. The two have different registration processes.
